Alex Doorey

Over the past 15 years Alex has developed a career across journalism, front line government media relations, and communications for major businesses. Alex is currently VP Corporate Affairs & Sustainability at OVO, leading external activity across communications, sustainability, public affairs, regulation & policy and social media.

Training in broadcast journalism, she first joined Sky working on production before moving into politics. After time working for David Cameron MP, she took up a position first as media adviser, and then as Chief of Staff, at Conservative Campaign Headquarters. 

On leaving government, Alex joined the private sector to lead corporate and sustainability communications at J Sainsbury PLC. She later joined eBay UK as Head of Corporate Comms, driving consumer activations and building a focus on the marketplace's support of UK small businesses. 

She was appointed as O2’s Head of External Communications in 2019, running PR and campaigns, network, business and sustainability comms, as well as corporate, financial results and the press office.

In 2021, she was appointed to an expanded role as leading external communications for both the Virgin Media and O2 brands following the merging of the two companies.As VMO2’s Director of External Communications she oversaw the joint venture's work across consumer PR, business comms, network and sponsorship, also leading the Sustainability function as interim CSR Director.

Alex is originally from up North, and now lives in Teddington. She has a son, Patrick, who is four, and a bulldog, Buster, who is two. In her spare time she teaches yoga and meditation, loves scuba diving and listens to a lot of music - she is a big Radiohead fan.
